Zero Calorie Salsa

If you like it a little spicy, try Salsa…it has zero calories! I am not referring to the kind that you eat but the kind that makes your body move.  For me, if I put on Salsa there is no way my body can be still, it HAS to move!  This is a great way to add in some fun into your exercise routine.  Create a 20-30 minute playlist of music that makes you move and dance your way right off of the couch!

My thoughts today…

Weight gain is often about emotional eating.  I can say without a doubt that I certainly tend to eat more when I am feeling unhappy or stressed.  I am going to be adding a little tip at the bottom of my blog on self-improvement.  I am in no way a licensed therapist but I have been married 25years, just not to the same man. ; )  I have gained a lot of wisdom on what works and what doesn’t work…I could write a book novel psychiatric journal thesis one humdinger of an autobiography on what doesn’t work.

Being successful with weight loss depends on your frame of mind, it depends on your happiness.  When we are content and satisfied, we will be less likely to revert back to old patterns of behavior.  The first question to ask yourself is:  What makes you happy?  No, don’t include double-fudge brownie batter in this list even if it does make you remarkably happy.  For example, I have a passion for the ocean, but even more so when it is storming and the rain is pounding the surf. It brings out something in me that I can’t even explain. It isn’t feasible for me to always run to the ocean so I am going to bring the ocean to my home office.  I am going to do this by decorating with an ocean theme from pictures that I have taken. Instant happiness! Writing is another thing that brings me happiness.  So ask yourself, what is it that makes you happy?  How can you bring more happiness into your life?  Try a little Salsa and Carpe’ Diem!

Take It Or Leave It…

We are taught to be kind to others but often times we are not kind to ourselves.  It is time to be good to you.  You are working hard on changing your eating habits, working hard to get more exercise and you deserve to be treated well for your efforts.  I have to admit that it has taken me years to learn how to be kind to myself.  I have always been the one to take care of everyone else and my needs were always shuffled to the back burner, I always thought that is what a wife and mother did.  I called it sacrifice, what I really should have called it was neglect.  I neglected my own needs, my own health and ended up hitting the wall.  Now, at 43, I am stepping back and asking myself, “What makes Beth happy?”  When you ask yourself difficult questions, sometimes the answers are just as complex, at least for me they were. For now I choose to make little things in my world brighter whether it be a picture on the wall, a flower on my table or an amusing blog about my day.  Never forget to be good to yourself and to thow a few things into your day that make you happy (but not the chocolate cake!).

Cheers!

~Beth

    • Thank you so much, you are so sweet! I sincerely enjoy reading your blog as well. : )
I think it is really important to long term success to really understand yourself and to meet your own needs in life, I learned this lesson the hard way. Discover those things that make your heart truly happy and surround yourself with the positive. : )
      Enjoy your day!

  2. Super, wonderful, great!!!

You hit the nail right on the head.

Happiness is good for you, chocolate brownies are not.

You MUST be good to yourself because as you found out, you are the only one who is responsible for taking care of your happiness.

Many “good” women do become overburdened with helping others and neglect themselves. We feel guilt when we do for ourselves because we LEARNED to do this.

I really struggled with this for years, it’s a tough one, but you are on your way.

    • Thank you living4bliss! It took me a very long time to realize that I needed to meet my own needs. Would you believe that I had my first pedicure last April on my daughter’s birthday?! It has been a long-time coming and now I am a high-polished, weight-losing lovely lady who feels strong. It really is so important to be good to yourself. We really are responsible for our own happiness and I am set on finding mine. : )
